What is the Hospital in the Home?

Hospital in the Home provides you with the friendly and personalised treatment Buderim Private Hospital is renowned for in the comfort and privacy of your own home, allowing you to get back to doing what matters to you most.

Eligible patients receive treatment from highly qualified nurses, doctors, and allied health staff who work closely alongside your hospital medical team to develop your personalised care plan.

For the duration of your care under Hospital in the Home you will remain a patient of the hospital.

Our Hospital in the Home service is delivered in partnership with Blue Care, a trusted community service provider which is proudly part of the UnitingCare family.

How does Hospital in the Home work?

1. Your medical team determines your eligibility to receive treatment safely at home.

2. The Hospital in the Home team liaises with the hospital medical team to determine your treatment and recovery plan.

3. Arrangements are made for you to transfer home and continue your treatment.

4. Your treatment is delivered in line with your medical plan, with your progress monitored carefully by the Hospital in the Home and hospital team until a full recovery is made.

Hospital in the Home greatly decreases the amount of disruption your clinical treatment has on your life. With the Hospital in the Home service you receive hospital quality care within the comfort and privacy of your own home, meaning you can get back to doing what matters to you most.

You will receive minimum of a daily visit and 24 hour support is available.

Who can access the Hospital in the Home Service?

Hospital in the Home is suitable for patients with medical conditions that are safe and appropriate to treat at home. Eligibility will be dependent on your individual treatment requirements.

You may be eligible to receive Hospital in the Home services if you have one of the following conditions: skin inflammations or infections, blood clots, pneumonia or other chest infections, kidney or urinary tract infections, mastitis, diverticulitis or appendicitis.

Even if you don’t have one of these conditions, you can still talk with your doctor or nurse to check whether you may be eligible.

Who pays for Hospital in the Home and how much does it cost?

We will work with your health fund to determine whether your condition is approved for Hospital in the Home treatment. Generally, the cost is the same as receiving in-hospital treatment, with any excess payable in-hospital also applying to Hospital in the Home.

If your hospital medical team approves you for Hospital in the Home but your health fund does not cover this treatment, you can elect to pay for this service.
