Congratulations to our rehabilitation ward which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary.
Opened in November 2010, the purpose-built ward provides specialised exercise, balance and strengthening equipment to suit the individual needs of each patient. The ward also has a gym and an outdoor area with ramps and steps so that patients can be instructed in improving their mobility in every day situations.
A team of specialist rehabilitation physicians, nurses, occupational therapists and physiotherapists work together to help patients regain their independence safely.
Dr Gerrit Fialla and Dr David Eckerman are the Specialist Rehabilitation Physicians who oversee the progress of each patient’s recovery to ensure they are meeting their rehabilitation goals.
“Some of the milestones along the way include building a team who work cohesively and enjoy coming to work every day to help our patients,” Dr Fialla said.
“The main change I have noticed over the past 10 years has been that our patients are generally getting older so we now see many patients in their nineties,” he said.
“Our rehabilitation team collectively enjoy the challenge of helping people to restore their abilities and regain their independence so they can live happy and healthy lives.”
