With a career spanning over 25 years, he held multiple positions such as Clinical Director (Melbourne Health), Associate Professor (University of Melbourne), and The Chief Psychiatrist (Victoria), prior to moving to the Sunshine Coast.
Having qualified as a Psychiatrist in Sri Lanka, he was offered a position in the UK and obtained further training in a range of specialities such as psychotherapies, developmental psychiatry and addiction psychiatry.
He has maintained a passion for training of Psychiatrists throughout his career, holding numerous positions within the College of Psychiatrists and developing training programmes for trainee Psychiatrists.
Dr Illesinghe obtained his MBBS in 1983, MD (Psych) in 1987, MRCPsych (UK) in 1991, FRANZCP in 1995 and was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists of UK in 2005 for his contribution to training of Psychiatrists. He maintains and updates his skills and expertise by being involved in training of doctors. He has a special interest in managing complex clinical cases using a broad range of skills within a multi-disciplinary model of care.
