Dr Michael MacPherson is a specialist consultant in General Medicine with an interest in Perioperative Medicine. General Medicine Physicians are specialists in diagnosing and treating adult patients with multiple and often complex medical conditions. Dr MacPherson provides inpatient and outpatient services with rooms on-site at Buderim Private Hospital.

Dr MacPherson graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2013. He has trained at highly regarded teaching hospitals in Glasgow, Bristol, Melbourne and the Sunshine Coast. Prior to moving to Australia in 2017, Dr MacPherson gained Membership to the Royal College of Physicians in the United Kingdom. During his time in Melbourne, he gained valuable experience in Emergency Medicine, General and Perioperative Medicine, Anaesthetics and Cardiology. He was awarded Eastern Health BPT Physician of the Year following his performance in the RACP examinations. In 2022, he moved with his young family to complete his training at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital and received Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2024. Dr MacPherson has a strong academic background with several publications, quality improvement projects and abstracts in General Medicine, Cardiology, Sports Medicine, Perioperative Medicine and patient safety. His Advanced Training project evaluating intravenous magnesium in rapid atrial fibrillation was published in the Journal of American Cardiology and helped improve patient care.

Dr MacPherson is passionate about providing evidence-based Perioperative care to patients before and after surgery. He evaluates individual risk and anticipates potential complications, as well as taking the opportunity to optimise pre-existing medical conditions. He consults daily once patients are admitted to Buderim Private Hospital for their procedure and works alongside the surgical team to ensure excellent patient outcomes.
