Dr Nicolas Copertino is a General Surgeon with a special interest in Surgical Oncology (breast, melanoma, colon).

Graduating initially with a science degree before attending the University of Western Australia Medicine, Dr Copertino received the Gold Medal for the highest aggregate marks in Medical School upon his graduation in 2009. He completed an internship at Nambour Hospital in 2010, before accepting a position in the Surgical Training Program in 2012.

In 2017 he received Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and was the first General Surgical Fellow in the newly opened Sunshine Coast University Hospital. Further subspecialty training was undertaken in 2017 at Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in Breast and Endocrine Surgery (learning techniques in Oncoplastic Breast Cancer, Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery) as well as further experience in Brisbane in laparoscopic and open ventral hernia techniques.

Dr Copertino commenced a full-time consultant surgical practice at Sunshine Coast University Hospital in 2018 and became the Medical Director of General Surgery in the Department of Surgery and Critical Care from 2021-2024.

Dr Copertino and his wife are busy raising their five children. He enjoys the Sunshine Coast outdoors, team sports and travelling.
