Dr Sonia Moorthy is an adult and paediatric ophthalmologist. She has a wealth of experience in the treatment of ocular diseases, including cataracts, pterygium, glaucoma and macula disorders. Her paediatric expertise encompasses management of strabismus including the use of botulinum toxin, paediatric cataract and neuro-ophthalmology.
She completed her medical degree at the University of Dundee, Scotland. Dr Moorthy subsequently pursued a Master of Public Health at the University of Melbourne, also volunteering as a field researcher in the Pilbara, WA as part of the National Indigenous Eye Survey.
Her general ophthalmic training was completed at the Sydney Eye Hospital. She subsequently completed fellowships in paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, at the prestigious Singapore National Eye Centre and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.
Dr Moorthy has recently moved to the Sunny Coast and is thrilled to be living here. Having a young family of her own, Dr Moorthy provides her expertise in a nurturing manner. She continues to provide Indigenous Eye Care as a Visiting Ophthalmologist to Emerald, Central Queensland.
Dr Moorthy strongly believes in merging leading technological innovation with personalised, evidence-based ophthalmic care. She is also committed to training the next generation of ophthalmologists and sits within the RANZCO Ophthalmic Sciences Board of Examiners and Women in Ophthalmology committee group.
