Dr Sorab Shavaksha MBChB (Leeds), FRACP, FRCPA (2013)
Dr Sorab Shavaksha is a Clinical Haematologist in full-time private practice at SCHOC in Buderim on the Sunshine Coast since 2013.
Having completed medical school at the University of Leeds in 2002, Dr Shavaksha completed his junior doctor training in the NHS in West Yorkshire before emigrating to south-east Queensland in 2006, where he underwent further general medical training before being accepted on to the Queensland Haematology Advanced training program. He completed training in both clinical and laboratory haematology at Princess Alexandra and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in 2013 and shortly after getting married, moved to the Sunshine Coast, where he has been located with his wife and four children ever since.
Dr Shavaksha prides himself on an honest and practical approach to haematology in the 21st century, taking state-of-the-art haematology research and trials information from around the world and fusing them into real-world outcomes for patients on the Sunshine Coast. He interprets patients' clinical symptoms and signs, integrates them with relevant investigations and formulates individual management plans that take into account every patient’s personal circumstances.
He is currently a member of several professional societies, including the British Society of Haematology and the European Society of Haematology, and sits on the board of the Medical Safety Committee for Montserrat Cancer Care.
Dr Shavaksha treats all haematology conditions, including malignant and non-malignant conditions, with a focus on myeloma, lymphoma and leukaemia, as well as myeloproliferative disorders, myelodysplastic conditions, and other rarer blood disorders. He runs a dedicated intravenous iron service and can supervise patient care during infusions for non-haematological conditions such as monoclonal infusions and immunoglobulin therapy.
When not striving for excellence beating blood conditions, Dr Shavaksha can be found at home with his young family or out in the hills and wild spaces of the Coast on his bike or on foot. He enjoys good music, reading and black and white photography.
