The Buderim Private Hospital Cindy Mackenzie Breast Cancer Program

We are proud to offer people affected by breast cancer a range of support services through The Buderim Private Hospital Cindy Mackenzie Breast Cancer Program.

Anyone from the Sunshine Coast who has been diagnosed with breast cancer is able to access support services offered by the program.

As the Sunshine Coast’s only private not-for-profit hospital, we are a values-based organisation with strong ties to the community. Through the Cindy Mackenzie Breast Cancer Program we are committed to delivering services for local breast cancer patients and their families.

The program honours the memory of Sunshine Coast mum Cindy Mackenzie who sadly lost her battle with breast cancer in 2006, aged 39. Sadly, Cindy is not alone in her fight against this terrible disease. Government figures reveal that in 2015, it is estimated that the risk of a woman being diagnosed with breast cancer by their 85th birthday is one in eight. The Queensland Cancer Registry reported that in 2011 more than 350 women on the Sunshine Coast were diagnosed with breast cancer. Breast cancer is still impacting far too many of our loved ones.

There are other breast cancer charities around Queensland and Australia, but only The Buderim Private Hospital Cindy Mackenzie Breast Cancer Program Foundation is specifically aimed at helping the Sunshine Coast community.

Our History

The Cindy Mackenzie Breast Cancer Foundation Incorporation was a not-for-profit organisation launched on April 24, 2007. The Foundation was founded by the late Cindy Mackenzie’s passionate group of family and friends. The Foundation supported more than 350 women living with breast cancer and their families for eight years - an amazing effort for a small grassroots charity run by volunteers.

In 2014, members of Cindy Mackenzie Breast Cancer Foundation Board approached the hospital about the possibility of working together to develop an expanded program of services. Further discussions between hospital executives and the Foundation board members over several months led to an agreement to transfer the Foundation’s operations and assets to the hospital in September 2015.

The Foundation is extremely grateful for the support offered by local individuals, businesses, schools, sporting organisations, church groups and the media, as well as volunteers who rattled donations tins each year.
