Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is an effective, evidence-based treatment for treatment-resistant depression. TMS stimulates the part of the brain responsible for mood via magnetic fields from a coil placed next to the scalp. Repetitive TMS (rTMS) delivers repeated, rapid pulses during a treatment session. rTMS is used to treat depression and can be offered when patients have not responded to antidepressant medication, prefer to try an alternative to medication, or cannot tolerate antidepressant medications due to side effects.
