The Overcoming Anxiety Program is a group designed to help people overcome anxiety disorders and reclaim their lives.

Introduction

The Cooinda Mental Health Service provides a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient services. The service provides treatment programs for a range of common mental health problems that anyone can suffer at any point in life.

Anxiety is normal and most people will experience some level of it on a fairly regular basis. However, when anxiety becomes excessive and uncontrollable it affects your thoughts, feeling and behaviour to a point where normal functioning at home, work and in social situations becomes difficult, if not impossible. When this happens it’s best to get professional help that can assist you to get your life back on track.

About the program

The Overcoming Anxiety Program is based on the principles of cognitive behaviour therapy, which research has repeatedly shown to be the most effective treatment for anxiety disorders.

The main aim of the program is to get people out of the anxiety hole (symptom relief) and to keep them out of the anxiety hole (relapse prevention).

The program runs for one day a week for 10 consecutive weeks. Group size is usually a minimum of five and maximum of 10 people.

Every patient will have access to our highly skilled multidisciplinary team with a special interest in anxiety disorders. Our team includes psychiatrists, psychologists, registered nurses, allied health specialists and an exercise physiologist. The program is overseen by the Buderim Private Hospital’s Director of Psychiatry.
