Surgical procedures guided by medical imaging

Interventional radiology is a specialised field within radiology that uses medical imaging to perform minimally invasive surgical procedures. This technique can be used to diagnose, treat and cure a broad spectrum of conditions, including blocked blood vessels, narrow or weak arteries, nerve pain, and biopsies. It can even be used to treat cancer.

When undergoing an interventional radiology procedure, your interventional radiologist will use x ray, MRI, CT scan or ultrasound imaging. After making small incisions, they will use the images to guide small tools – needles, wires or catheters – through your blood vessels, arteries or organs.
